Public Schools
The public schools in Momence service more than 1,200 students in four buildings. Range Elementary, which houses pre-K and Kindergarten, reflects the national trend to front load the system with a strong preparation for the crucial first grade experience and literacy. Range serves as an early childhood center housing a host of programs cap stoned by a literacy-based kindergarten program.
The teachers of Je-Neir Elementary, home to students in grades one through four, oversee a strong academic program at a school that was named a "Golden Spike" facility for its exceptional score on the State of Illinois Achievement testing. The program includes reading recovery, four-block reading, bilingual education, Title 1 math and reading services, a gifted program, music, physical education, computer lab and reading counts.
Public school students in grades five through eight attend Momence Junior High, which is divided into two houses based on age. Grades five and six employ a homeroom style organization, with the students spending most of the day with one teacher. Seventh and eighth graders move to a more departmentalized approach. All students are serviced by a program designed to help make strong social and academic decisions. A full-time counselor is assigned to the Junior High School.
Momence High School students enjoy a comprehensive education steeped in tradition and pride. The school is on a Block 8 schedule and houses two IBM-compatible computer labs and two wireless labs in the media center. Core courses are supplemented by a wide range of athletic, music and extracurricular activities. Students can enroll in advanced placement classes, dual enrollment college courses, and upper classmen may attend the regional vocational center offering career training. |
Parochial Schools
For more than 20 years, Unity Christian School has provided a quality education with a Christian perspective. The state-accedited, parent-run institution serves students from preschool through eighth grade in multi-grade classes that integrate the ideals of faith and service. In addition to a core curriculum, Unity offers art, music and library programs; several field trips per year; and the opportunity to participate in regional educational competitions. Sports are offered in cooperation with St. Patrick Academy. |  |

 | St. Patricks Academy is affiliated with St. Patrick's Catholic Church and aims to create an atmosphere of Christian awareness within a program of academic enrichment. Serving children from preschool through grade eight, the Academy's mission is threefold: to foster academic excellence; to assist children in becoming constructive citizens of the world. Extracurricular activities include sports, science fairs and speech contests. Weekly liturgy services are part of the curriculum.
